Gomito’s New Blog

Well hello Gomito friends. Guess what we’ve gone and done…only started a blog! Lots of interesting people will be posting their Gomito thoughts and experiences on here, including actors, designers and maybe the occasional puppet!

 

First off you have me, Alice. I joined Gomito as the Company Manager ten weeks ago and the time has flown by in a flurry of organising, marketing and puppet fun.

 

I first encountered Gomito way back in 2009 when they performed ‘Before We Remember’ at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Being a bright eyed recently graduated student, I was in awe of the beautiful visual spectacle they had created on stage. It wasn’t until two years later however, in a damp but magic wood known as Spinney Hollow, that Amelia and Sam became aware of me. If I had my time again I’m not sure I would so readily agree to sing a drunken version of Johnny Cash’s ‘Hurt’ in front of a group of talented theatrical musicians. (I’m actually pretty tone deaf and, as it turns out, don’t know many of the words to ‘Hurt’!)

 

Luckily for me however, Amelia and Sam did not judge me as harshly as they perhaps should have and were even gracious enough to pretend they had forgotten all about it when I met them for an interview six months later. Now I work for Gomito two days a week and what a lovely place to work it is,  not least because Amelia made me a mug puppet (essentially this is just a mug with a goggly eye on it but I’m easily pleased)

 

I’m looking forward to the next few months with Gomito, during which time I will be getting the company organised, working on marketing, overseeing the upcoming tours and, most importantly, creating a colour coordinated company calendar.
