Visual theatre company Gomito Productions are devising a new outdoor show. Following two weeks of preparatory R and D in September 2012 the company have secured funding to develop the final show and stage performances in Cambridge and Greenwich. The production is Gomito’s most logistically ambitious to date and involves the construction of a technically challenging set.

Gomito are looking for an exceptionally organised Production Manager/Project Producer who enjoys, and is experienced at managing outdoor theatre projects. The right person will join our small, friendly, creative team, Local Authorities and venue partners in helping us to realise the show and give our audiences an enjoyable and surprising night out.

PRODUCTION MANAGER/PROJECT PRODUCER
JOB DESCRIPTION

Timescale:

Full project: as soon as possible to 16th September 2013
Set build: 15th -26th July
Rehearsals: 29th July-9th August and 19th-30th August
Cambridge performances: 5th/6th/7th September
Greenwich performances: 10th-15th September

General Role:

Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the project from beginning to end, for the benefit of the long term future of the show. Responsibilities within this are likely to include, though are not limited to, the following areas.

Pre-Production:

Gomito have office space at Greenwich Theatre in London which the Production Manager is welcome to use.

  •  Assist in finding unconfirmed team members (2 Actors, 2 Technicians, an Outdoor Performance Mentor and a Design Assistant).
  • Work with Gomito’s Company Manager to issue contracts.
  • Plan and communicate scheduling.
  • Assist the Director in scouting suitable performance sites.
  • Gain all necessary permissions for performance and liaise with Cambridge City Council and Greenwich Borough Council.
  • Liaise with venue partners Greenwich Theatre and Cambridge Junction about ushers, security, ticket sales and technical equipment.
  • Liaise with owners of the building, rehearsal space and accommodation.
  • Assist the Company Manager with the logistics of marketing (scheduling photographers/filming etc).
  • Manage health and safety requirements and risk assessments.
  • Help to rework and monitor the budget in the light of funding received.
  • Plan transport and set build logistics.
  • Coordinate performance-time accommodation.
  • Devise poor weather contingency plans.

Rehearsal:

Rehearsal and building space has been sourced on a farm in rural Suffolk. The Production Manager is not expected/needed to be there full time. There is on-site accommodation. A warning: phone reception is tricky!

  • Coordinate sharing of information with whole team as the show develops.
  • Coordinate a work-in-progress sharing half way through development.
  • Liaise with the Company Manager and venues about marketing.
  • Coordinate technical rider for tech rehearsal and performances.
  • Source location specific materials.
  • General problem solving as show requirements become clearer.
  • Coordinate recording of development for marketing purposes.
  • Assist Company Manager in identifying partnerships for future touring.
  • Monitor budget.

Performances:

  •  Manage get ins and outs and daily rebuilding.
  • Coordinate transport and security of set.
  • Ensure ushers are briefed.
  • Ensure health and safety is managed.
  • Coordinate on-site publicity and signage.
  • Greet partners, funders, press and potential programmers.
  • Manage general wellbeing of cast, crew and audience while outside.
  • Coordinate with Company Manager recording of shows and audience responses.

Post shows:

  • Ensure sites are returned to original condition.
  • Arrange set storage.
  • Return technical equipment.
  • Ensure all outstanding payments are made.
  • Complete a finalised budget.
  • Assist in any necessary evaluations, thank yous or feedback exercises.
